The monologues represent two different attitudes towards war. One person is going to share the thoughts of a young solider heading to war in 1915. While the second person is speaking from the point of view of a young New Zealander in 2014.
We had class discussions where groups of students brainstormed ideas about the attitudes of the time.

Sense of brotherhood (connected to one another)
Missing home (family, a safe environment)
Compassion towards other soliders (inc. enemy. They are only doing their job)
Being brave
Felt bad about killing others.
Nervous
Petrified
Exciting because iof a new adventure
Don't realise what they getting themselves into
Honour fighting to protect Britain (homeland)
Some people didn't like it because of their beliefs
Opportunity to travel
Prieverlidge to be selected to fight for your country
Hope they didn't get killed
Being greedy over land
Lots of bombing
Fear of death
Killing for no good reason

Unscary war
Fored to attend war
Cold hearted
Horribel
War is stupid
Fighting about nothing

Killing innocent people
Don't talk about it
Losing parts of a family

Only army would fight (not all people of age)
